Spring cleaning, taking stock

my latest "love liberty" pincushion

I reckon that now’s a good time to take stock of how I’m doing with my projects this year. I still feel bogged down by winter, and I think I’m in need of a good Spring cleaning. First, you may have noticed I’ve changed the header image on this blog. I just needed a change. They say a change is as good as a holiday. What idiot said that! I still need that holiday! However. I was thinking of doing a huge overhaul of the whole site, colours, themes, etc, but I don’t think so. Too much hard work. Instead, I think I’ll do something that’s much more productive. Take stock of where I am now. It’s been a …well, what words do I use here, shocker? of a year. That’ll do, right. And now, coming out of the woods, so to speak, I’m looking to the future. Mostly, the immediate future. I just realized as I’m typing this that I’ve not really had any attention at all, doesn’t even occur in my field of vision, to think about my longer term future. Huh. Not sure what the significance of that is, if anything. It’s just what I noticed.

One thing I’m changing. I started this blog with the intention of completing 25 projects a year. It was going to be an unrestricted list, so not only sewing projects, but anything really. Anything that inspired me to take on. I’m kinda finding myself now a little off that idea. I mean, look at how that’s gone last year and this. Not so good. I think I’d rather have it be a more fluid list. One that keeps getting added to, as I pick up new things to do. I mean, you know what it’s like. I didn’t stop having ideas for projects at the beginning of the year. I keep having them. Plenty of them! And I don’t want to have to say, well, that’ll have to wait for next year’s list. By the way, depending on how closely you follow my blog – not so much? that’s fine, really – you might have noticed – or not – that I change the list as the year goes by, and I don’t say anything about it. Kinda like my Sarah when she was little, hands pushed deep into the pockets of her little orange swing dress I’d sewn for her, offering up unprompted, and with a perfectly straight and innocent face, “I haven’t got any lollies mummy.”

Yeah, so my list changes. I decided I oughta just ditch the idea of having to set the projects at the beginning of the year, and stick to those only. That works in other arenas, and I’ve done that with great results before. It’s just not for here. This is more my play area. So I’m going to simply keep sewing away, and sharing my journey with you. I’m glad I started the other two sites – one for my music, and the other for social life. It’s working better for me to separate things out.

Oh, and one more thing. I’m going to change the “Tutorials” page and call it “Step by Step” or “Instructions”, or something like that. “Tutorials” makes me sound like an expert, which I’m not really.

OK. Now, I’m going to take a look at my 2010 project list, and do some serious culling. Ah! Spring is in the air. Whaddayareckon?
