I’ve just stumbled across Bloggers’ Quilt Festival, thanks to Patch Andi, and I’ve entered my Sarah’s Triangles Quilt. If you’re visiting from the Bloggers’ Quilt Festival, welcome to 25reasons!
This quilt is quite special. First because it’s so BIG! The quilt finished up measuring 85″ (216 cm) x 99″ (251 cm)! Second because I made it for my daughter Sarah, who watched keenly from the sidelines as I made this quilt, and choosing some of the fabrics with me, beaming her excitement at me with her huge smile, all throughout the process. Third because it was a real challenge to quilt. I always knew I was going to hand-quilt this one, but when I got started by trying to pin the thing, I ran into such strife! I’d lay it down on the carpet to pin it, and then pick it up, folding it to be able to cart it to the couch where I was going to sit and quilt, but every time I did that, I ended up with huge folds in the backing fabric. So I tried all sorts of things. I lay it on the table, pinned it with even more pins, but still ended up with the same result.
In the end, I gave up trying. I considered hand-basting it, but it seemed like too big a job for me, so, although I was really hesitant about doing that, I looked at giving that job away to a professional, someone who could do it by machine. I felt bad about someone else’s hand being on my quilt. Sounds a little obsessive, but I think you know what I mean, right? Anyway, I ended up giving it away to be done, and I reckon it was the best money I ever spent! It came back to me with 3″ squares basted all over the quilt, and it was an absolute dream to quilt. I didn’t have to worry about whether it would have “pleats” in the back where I wasn’t holding the fabrics together properly, know what I mean?
I have to admit that when I finally finished the hand-quilting, and pulled out all the basting stitches, I felt good. Appreciative but happy that now only my handiwork was in it. Crazy? Yeah, probably. Would I have a large quilt machine-basted again? Definitely! You can read more about the making of this quilt here.
Here are some more images of my quilt. Can you tell Sarah’s crazy about her new quilt???

What beautiful rich deep colors. Your quilt is a feast for the eyes! Thanks for sharing.
I love the color combo! It must have taken a really long time to hand quilt that huge quilt. You did a great job I love it!
Love the bright colours and how snuggly warm it looks. Sarah looks delighted too!
Wow, I love the colors! Absolutely amazing! Your daughter sure is a lucky girl!
I´m collecting Kaffe Fassett fabrics for quite some time now, but still don´t know what exactly to do with them. But one day I´ll make a quilt out of them, and I hope it will be as beautiful as yours.
Is it your cute little dog?
What a gorgeous quilt! Thanks for sharing!
What a rich beautiful quilt. Glad you figured out how to get it quilted. It is obvious your daughter LOVES IT. Kudos.

That is a big quilt and it is absolutely stunning. Thank you for sharing and inspiring this novice (in Sydney, where I could use a nice big quilt like that!)
Lovely colors, lovely quilt! Adorable:)
This is a beautiful quilt! Love the colors and the patterns. These fabrics are lucious…the blue is stunning. The back fabric is perfect…great job!

I love those saturated colors! It’s fantastic that you hand quilted such a large project. What love!
I may do the same thing with one of my quilts as well. I am basting it like that made things easier.
it a beautiful quilt!
I love this quilt and you gave me a great idea on how to finish a quilt that has weighed heavily on my mind. Thank you.
Love the quilt and the fabrics!
What a beautiful quilt and looks so good on Sarah! Fun to read about your journey through this quilt and can relate tocwhat you say! Love kaffee’s material and patterns. Made a pickle dish one of his but not with all his fabrics. They are gorgeous and am making a mystery bom with his materials. Thanks for sharing and have a great day
Stunning quilt! I’m sure she’ll treasure it forever. It’s beautiful ~ thanks for sharing all the photos!
Wow, what a bright and colorliscious quilt you made! It’s absolutely stunning! No wonder your daughter loves it … who wouldn’t?!?! I understand you not wanting anyone else to quilt it. That’s why I started quilting my own after I got my long-arm. I just wanted to know that I did it all by myself. Your quilter is a special treasure to have basted it so that you could hand-quilt it. I never would have thought of that!
Thanks for visiting my blog and for your sweet comments on my entry.

Such vibrant colours. Love the way your quilt has turned out. I have to admire you for doing all the hand quilting.
I love it and the story. And Sarah modeling is just icing. She’s beautiful. Don’t fret, we all understand the need for “owning” our work. It’s happened ( or will happen to us all at one point or another.)
It’s gorgeous! I never thought about sending a quilt out for basting. Great idea.
These are kiss me colors and I love em. A great quilt!
