and the back for sarah's triangle quilt is done!

NOW for the sandwiching and basting (possibly!) and quilting. I have to get the pinning done at the very least, just in case I do have surgery on Thursday to finally fix that 5th metatarsal.

foot surgeon appt this wednesday - thanks charlie!

It’s not what you know, it’s who you know! Thanks Charlie! Appt with orthopaedic surgeon this Wednesday morning. Lucky, because the other 1/2 dozen I called couldn’t see me before December or February. Amazing.

theory charlie and eva

I actually got through all the way past Lesson 13 in Grade 1, very basic really, when I began to doubt this process. It’s all very well for me to flythrough these lessons, even grapple with them as they get harder through the grade levels, but I won’t end up with a reference book I can open up any time. I just think you can’t beat having an actual physical book, rather than the virtual kind. Tomorrow I go on a hunt for some theory books I can order online.

Good news though… my friend Charlie, a top physiotherapist, told me today that he can get me in with one of the top feet orthopaedic surgeons on Wednesday this week. He’s going to call me tomorrow with the details. I love having connections. Mind you, it’s not a done deal yet, but wouldn’t that be something! I’m getting a little nervous about having this operation. Just want to get it done asap, know what I mean?

In the meantime, tomorrow I’m having lunch with Eva! Finally we get to catch up.

spanner in the works

Just got off the phone with my local GP. Had an x-ray on my foot this morning. I have an un-united fracture of the 5th metatarsal. He said it’s not healed at all and I need to have a screw put in it. On hold now with the orthopod office to see if they can take me. They don’t have anything. Doing the call-around now to find someone else free in the next week .

how it all began

On Saturday afternoon, the 8th of August in fact, I handed over my business to my business partner, my gorgeous daughter Devorah. On Monday night, August 31st, I was putting the clean linen on my bed, and, as I’d done for years, I stood on the edge of the bed to get a good go at shaking the doona into the doona cover. All good, so I went to step back off the bed and bang! I’m on the floor, my head’s in a pile of shoeboxes, and I hear a snap, like some plastic tubing just snapped.

Six weeks later, here I am, I don’t have the plaster on my broken foot any more, and I’ve ditched the crutches, but I’m still walking with a cam walker “moon boot” on my right leg, and I can’t drive.

So, with a fair amount of time on my hands, and with nothing much I gotta do, I’ve been speculating on what I might take on for this next stage of my life. Meantime, I found myself pulling out unfinished, and for that matter, some unstarted projects from my quilt cupboard in the hall, and also making enquiries about studying music at Monash and Melbourne universities. And I suddenly came up with an idea that I’m really inspired about…..

25 projects a year!

Each year, I’ll create and complete 25 projects, and blog about them. I’ll create a new page for each project so I can keep track of them easily. One thing I don’t need is a mess of posts to navigate!

Hope you enjoy!
