A letter to you, Dad on Pesach

me and dad, august '09

me and dad, august '09

I remember this time last year. I sat at the Pesach table at my house, with all the family there. Moshe and our children of course, my son-in-law, my mother, my parents-in-law, my sister- and brother-in-law, their two daughters, my nephew and his new wife, a couple of our friends, my step mother.. and you Dad. I kept catching your eye across the table, and we looked at each other, and we knew. This would be our last Pesach together.

And so it was. Now, I’m about to get showered and dressed to go to my sister’s-in-law for First Night Seder. I wish you were here Dad. I’m going to miss your jokes, your cheeky grin, singing the songs with you. Hearing the same Pesach jokes you’ve made probably all my life.

This photo was taken at Gita’s house, on her birthday. Who knew you only had three and a half months to live. Not even, you would have said.

I miss you so much. I missed you on my birthday last Thursday. I missed you at Roslynne’s son’s Bar Mitzvah. My darling uncle, your brother Mendl made a speech that you would have been proud of. It was your kind of speech. I told him so, and he said he was thinking of you the whole time he was speaking. So you were kinda there with us all.

I miss you today. I miss you every day.

Tablecloths, tutorials, and more

Heaps to share today…

First, I've received in the mail today samples of bullion fringe for my matzah cover. It's nearly Passover, and I must get this done. Here's a picture of the samples. I'm leaning towards no. 2 or no. 5. What do you think? No. 5 is a duller gold than that of the fabric & trim, but I think it looks nice. It's a very nice quality fringe. The pearl whites look really nice too, No. 2 being the better quality. So I'm not sure. Click on the images to see up close.

Next bit of news… I've nearly completed my first tutorial for this blog. I've been sewing a tablecloth for one of my 25projects for 2010, but I'm now stuck. The fabric I had originally planned to use for the border of the cloth, no longer looks right, and I don't have anything else in the cupboard. It'll take either a trip to Amitié, or an online purchase to finish this one. Won't be long. Promise. That's why I've put passwords on the tutorial pages, so you'll have to be patient till I finish them :)

Also, I've pulled out the fabric I bought ages ago for another tablecloth. A bit more work to it, and I'll be making matching appliquéd napkins as well. Here's the fabric…

Last bit of news… I've begun making enquiries about venues for the first meeting of the Melbourne Modern Quilt Guild in April. One really strong possibility that I think will be perfect. Not too far from me, a superb new large bright hall. Reasonable rates. Easty to find. Good parking. Just gotta wait to hear back from Gail to tell me if we can have it, then the work begins. I'll need to have a Certificate of Currency for our public liability insurance. Which of course, we don't have. So I'll have to register our guild as a not-for-profit organization first, which means getting an ABN, then get the insurance. Heaps to do!

really good evening with family, taking my sewing and off to bed

My Mum came over with a cooked dinner tonight. Div and Mark were here too so they stayed for dinner. Stir fry beef and veggies, salad with heaps of garlic, and best bit – her apple compote for dessert. Cousin Ben is in town, and he come over too. Then more cousins, Sluggo and Mich came over. It was so good. I laughed and watched YouTube videos, and was well distracted from thinking about Dad. I love my family. Now, I’m off to bed, my afikomen cloth “hooped”, needle threaded with cornflower blue embroidery floss, and I’m ready for the telly, my pillows and sewing. Good night Dad. Miss you. Love you. xxxxx

which colour thread? cornflower, cobalt or metallic gold?

Oh dear. I can’t work it out. Although I’m pretty sure I don’t want the gold. It’s a much harder thread, and will make the cloth harder in hand. The cornflower is very pretty. And light, which I like. The cobalt is much darker of course, and stands out more. I’m leaning towards the cornflower, but your thoughts will be appreciated. My head is still not terribly clear after the last few days. And I know, the image isn’t very clear, especially where I’ve put the cornflower blue thread. Write me a comment?
