My scrappy starling hedgerow quilt: centre pieces are all cut!

Well I’ll be darned! I managed to cut out a plastic template, trace my starlings, cut them out with my scissors, and, even though it was quite heavy and I couldn’t lift it too well, I managed to press the little 3.5″ squares too! Shoulder hurts, but not too bad. Might take my first Tramadol for the day after that, but look what I now have… 37 gorgeous little squares!

I’ve decided to make this quilt a 6×6 block size, with 2″ sashing between the blocks and a 3″ border. So, since the blocks are 12″ squares, the finished quilt will measure 88″x88″ (225cm x 225cm). A perfect size for my queen-size bed. My next step is to begin collecting the fabric for the block strips. Think I’ll use the same colours as the original quilt because I just love how they look – aqua, pink, red, yellow, black/white, and green.

If you haven’t already seen it, head over to the stunning Oh, Fransson! blog to see Elizabeth’s Scrappy Starlings Hedgerow Quilt that I’m virtually copying.
