And since I was so close to finishing the entire project, I cut out and sewed on the binding too.

Just in the nick of time - Matzah Cover finished!

I just finished sewing on the last bead! Didn’t think it was going to get done in time for tonight’s seder, but there you are! And the dinner and table and everything are all ready too. I’m just relaxing before I take a shower and get dressed. Here are some photos of the finished Matzah Cover:

Here’s a close-up of the beading…

Gut Yom Tov to everyone! Have a wonderful Pesach!

MOVES

My new home at http://25reasons.net

You know what it’s like. You have a clear picture in your mind of what needs to be done, and how simple it’ll be, and how short a time it’ll take, and how good it’s going to be. And then it all goes awry! So here I am. Several days later, but I’m here! And WOOHOO! It all works now. Thanks to the extremely generous Figaro who has a great website called Free Technology Tutorials that you should definitely check out if you have a WordPress blog, and also thanks to the brilliant support team at Super Green Hosting.

Having said that, please let me know if you find broken links, or anything else that is .. well, just wrong.

MATZAH

Now, during the days that I waited patiently – not! – for the new domain name to propagate, and for my blog to be relocated and settled into the new site, I did do some work on my Matzah cover. It is after all, only days before passover, and it needs to be finished. I finally found the perfect bullion fringe and ordered it from Jude at bei Cuscini in Maling Road, Canterbury. She sent me samples, and we spoke and finally picked out the one you see here.

While it was travelling in the post from Jude to me, I finished the edges of the cover. I cut strips of the same fabric as the middle plaque, and stitched it around, as you can see in the above photo.

The fringe arrived the next morning – thank you Jude! – and I stitched it onto my cover, without breaking any needles, which I can tell you, looked a very likely mishap on most of the corners! Here’s how it looks now..

finished! ... or is it?

finished! ... or is it?

I looked at it and looked. And the more I looked , the more I thought something wasn’t right. That gold trim around the inside of the centre panel just didn’t look right any more. The rich warm vanilla of the fringe somehow didn’t match the trim. I thought about unstitching it and taking it off, but I kinda liked it there. What to do!

Aha! I have a solution. I’ve ordered some lovely metallic gold seed beads and I’m going to sew them around the top of the fringe. I think that’ll look just perfect then! I hope the beads will arrive today, and I’ll get sewing immediately!

BIRTHDAYS

Yesterday, Moshe and I celebrated our birthdays. And yes, for those of you who don’t know me personally, my husband and I share the same birthday. He’s 3 years older, but it was destiny, right? Or some such nonsense. It was really wonderful. Thank you everyone who text messaged me, emailed me, sent birthday wishes to me on Facebook, and called me. I feel very loved. And then there’s the most gorgeous hat that Sarah gave me. I’ll have to take a picture and show you. I love it!

And check out that gluten-free carrot cake with the delicious icing! Thanks GIta :)

And here’s a nice one of David and Java.

I miss you Dad xx

Tablecloths, tutorials, and more

Heaps to share today…

First, I've received in the mail today samples of bullion fringe for my matzah cover. It's nearly Passover, and I must get this done. Here's a picture of the samples. I'm leaning towards no. 2 or no. 5. What do you think? No. 5 is a duller gold than that of the fabric & trim, but I think it looks nice. It's a very nice quality fringe. The pearl whites look really nice too, No. 2 being the better quality. So I'm not sure. Click on the images to see up close.

Next bit of news… I've nearly completed my first tutorial for this blog. I've been sewing a tablecloth for one of my 25projects for 2010, but I'm now stuck. The fabric I had originally planned to use for the border of the cloth, no longer looks right, and I don't have anything else in the cupboard. It'll take either a trip to Amitié, or an online purchase to finish this one. Won't be long. Promise. That's why I've put passwords on the tutorial pages, so you'll have to be patient till I finish them :)

Also, I've pulled out the fabric I bought ages ago for another tablecloth. A bit more work to it, and I'll be making matching appliquéd napkins as well. Here's the fabric…

Last bit of news… I've begun making enquiries about venues for the first meeting of the Melbourne Modern Quilt Guild in April. One really strong possibility that I think will be perfect. Not too far from me, a superb new large bright hall. Reasonable rates. Easty to find. Good parking. Just gotta wait to hear back from Gail to tell me if we can have it, then the work begins. I'll need to have a Certificate of Currency for our public liability insurance. Which of course, we don't have. So I'll have to register our guild as a not-for-profit organization first, which means getting an ABN, then get the insurance. Heaps to do!
