This pillowcase is based on a design given to me at quilting class.
First things first, I chose my fabrics, a fairly loose weave cotton for the top, and a lovely soft satin-touch cotton underneath. Once I’d traced the design onto the top fabric, I basted the two pieces together.
Here’s how the embroidery finished up.
I had such fun doing this, even though I had to redo my slipstitch a couple times on the hair. I chose soft pastel colours for this. I tend to go more for brighter more modern colours and designs, but I’m very happy doing something with less heat right now. A little calm is lovely, and these colours make me think of icecream. Definitely cooler and calmer. Summer afternoons kinda feel, know what I mean?
Here are some closeups of the girls..
Almost feel like I should name each one! I’m going to quilt the panel in white Perle 8 that I’ll have to buy on Monday from Amitié because I’m completely out of it. And what do you think of this Liberty of London fabric for the back of the pillowcase? Perfect, right?
Here are the vegetables that have been sitting on my kitchen table since yesterday, and am I making soup? No. I’m sewing. I love my little embroidery girls.
Here is a better image of the lovely little white running stitches all done.
Now to sew the top and bottom borders of the pillowcase. First, fabric. Not sure whether to go with Libery of London actually, or to use something a little more modern. I’ll have to ponder on that for a bit.
OK, I think I’m ready for the soup now.
