| I recently made four swaddling wraps and matching burp cloths for my grandchild due January 2012. Not knowing if the baby would be a boy or a girl, I made two sets for each.The wraps are made with beautiful double gauze. I bought 1.25m (1 1/3 yds) and squared it off, so that the finished wrap measures slightly larger than 1 metre (42″) square. I finished them with ready-made bias, and that’s it. So easy! Judy at Amitié had showed me one she’d made in the Alice fabric. I fell in love with it, and then just copied. Thanks Judy!The burp cloths are made with a coordinating print, with a strip of the double gauze, then backed with terry cloth I’d bought at Spotlight, and threw into my washing machine and dryer before sewing it up. They measure about 23 cm x 58 cm (9″ x 23″), a decent size I think, giving plenty of hang over the shoulder to catch any baby drooling down one’s back. Mostimportant I think. On 15th January 2012, little Austin was born, and I’m thrilled to see my daughter using both the blue and brown sets with him. Alice and Thumbelina are safely tucked away for… well, we’ll see.Do you like them? I think I’ll be making these up for gifts. They’re so easy and quick to make, and luckily there are quite a few beautiful double gauze fabrics on the market now. Here’s a link to one that I recently found online. I might just sneak one out, in case the baby’s a boy. Although, the fabric I’m really hoping to find is this one. Fabricworm is out of stock, and I can’t find any for love or money. | Devorah asked me to make a couple more of the burp cloths for her. I opted for more vibrant colours this time. Aren’t they gorgeous? The little octopus is from a great little toy shop I passed by in High Street, Armadale. Just couldn’t walk by without going in! It has a little rattle thing inside. Very cute! |
