Sarah’s Triangles Quilt

Sarah's Triangles Quilt

Now this quilt, I’m crazy about. I just love Kaffe Fassett’s fabrics, and I love how excited Sarah is about this quilt. It all began when, some time back in 2007 I think, I bought a whole bunch of Kaffe Fassett’s fabrics in pinks, reds, and purples. My idea was to make a large quilt using triangles cut from fabrics which, I believe, are so striking and colour-rich, that they really deserve large-size pieces to show them off. The finished quilt measures 85″ (216 cm) x 99″ (251 cm).

I had quite a lot of difficulty sandwiching the finished quilt top, it was too big for me to manage. So, I had it machine basted. Best thing I ever did! A couple of weeks and about $100 later, I got my quilt back, all perfectly basted in little squares. I used Perle 8 thread to hand-quilt in a very large cross-hatch design that created large diamonds across the triangles.

you can see the square-patterned basting stitches here, as well as the chalk lines, and to the right, my hand quilting stitched lines in fuchsia Perle 8

I used Oh, Fransson!‘s tutorial, Making and Sewing Binding. It’s really easy to follow, and works every time. Thanks Elizabeth!

Isn't the binding fabric a perfect finish to the beautiful Kaffe Fassett fabrics!

Here are a few photos of Sarah’s quilt. Can you tell she loves it?
